Perfect Summer Day

“A perfect summer day is when the sun is shining, the breeze is blowing, the birds are singing, and the lawn mower is broken.” James Dent

Although the days are growing shorter and the nights cooler, there is still enough warm sunshine to make me ignore those 'official' reports that summer ended with the last day of February. Most summers, I make a list of places to visit and things to do, and each year this list seems to get longer and longer – there’s something about sunny weather that makes just about every activity more enjoyable!

Did you and your family accomplish everything you planned this summer? Did you visit somewhere new? Have a barbeque or play some backyard cricket? Reading a good book on a sunny beach, having a cold drink on the deck and dining al fresco are just a few of my favourite summer pastimes, as well as the odd weekend road trip. Being new to Auckland I’ve been playing the tourist this summer and have had quite a few memorable moments, including digging a pool at the Hot Water Beach, sunbathing at the secluded New Chum’s Beach and wine-tasting on Waiheke. It’s quite hard to pick a favourite!

So, do tell. What was the best thing you did this summer? What is left on your agenda while the sun is still shining? And of course, what would comprise your ‘perfect summer day’?

From everyone at Heritage and CityLife Hotels, we hope you’ve had a fabulous summer!
