Otago Cycle Trails
Otago Central Rail Trail
This is the trail that inspired the creation of the New Zealand Cycle Trail network, it follows the old railway line between Clyde and Middlemarch.
The Otago Central Rail Trail boasts a blend of natural beauty, fascinating history and a series of welcoming towns. You can ride it over several days or break it down into shorter rides.
You'll see spectacular railway bridges and tunnels, abandoned gold diggings and historic architecture. There’s also plenty of opportunity to taste Otago’s celebrated local flavours in country cafes, wineries and more.
Clutha Gold Trail
This 72km ride is one of Otago's best. Winding along the Clutha Mata-au River between Roxburgh and Lawrence, this easy trail is the perfect way to immerse yourself in the stunning rural and riverside scenes of Central Otago’s Teviot Valley.
For those interested in the history of the region, you'll learn all sorts of fascinating stories along the way – from the Māori moa hunting period and early gold rushes, the building of railways and hydropower stations, to the pastoral farming and fruit growing that flourishes to this day.
This trail can be completed in one day or split into 2 or 3 day rides.
