Otago Central Rail Trail

This is the trail that inspired the creation of the New Zealand Cycle Trail network, it follows the old railway line between Clyde and Middlemarch.

The Otago Central Rail Trail boasts a blend of natural beauty, fascinating history and a series of welcoming towns. You can ride it over several days or break it down into shorter rides.

You'll see spectacular railway bridges and tunnels, abandoned gold diggings and historic architecture. There’s also plenty of opportunity to taste Otago’s celebrated local flavours in country cafes, wineries and more.

Roxburgh Gorge Trail

The Roxburgh Gorge Trail is one of the country's most visually spectacular and intriguing day rides. It follows the Clutha Mata-au River past eroded bluffs and old gold workings set amidst graceful willows, native shrubs and fragrant thyme.

Highlights of the Roxburgh Gorge Trail include rugged bluffs and rock forms, gold rush relics, the Roxburgh Dam, a jet boat tour through remote reaches, native birdlife and interesting vegetation, from wild thyme and willows to rare native plants

Lake Dunstan Trail

The Lake Dunstan Trail links the townships of Clyde and Cromwell. 

The trail offers cyclists and walkers a ride through unique and fascinating landscapes as it journeys along Lake Dunstan, the Kawarau River and the mighty Clutha River Mata-au.
