New Executive Chef For Heritage Queenstown

31 Jan 2018

Sandro Lobao has been appointed as the new executive chef for Heritage Queenstown.

He was born and raised in Brazil and made his way to New Zealand in 2002. Sandro trained originally as a firefighter and self-defence instructor. He made a change of career to the culinary industry in New Zealand. He has worked his way steadily up the ladder and has held a number of senior roles most recently in the Queenstown region.

From an early age he was very interested in cuisine. His grandmother in Brazil was a major influence on his culinary journey and he spent many happy days in his childhood in her kitchen. He has been translating her recipes into a recipe book to be released later this year.

Sandro’s personal food philosophy echoes his grandmother’s advice.

“My grandmother’s philosophy was that there are no short cuts to creating quality food. Every dish must be prepared with love or it will not be a success,” says Sandro.

He will be responsible for the Heritage Queenstown’s busy Mackenzies restaurant and the hotel’s extensive conference event and wedding catering for the spectacular Icon Room.

“The Icon Room is such a beautiful venue. I am looking forward to creating catering that matches the standard of the venue and its outstanding views.”

Lovingly crafted from river stone and timeless in design, Heritage Queenstown is reminiscent of a European ski lodge. Guests can choose from well-appointed deluxe rooms through to self-contained suites. The exceptional guest facilities include a swimming pool, sauna and gym on site.

Mackenzies restaurant and bar offers hearty cuisine with local ingredients and renowned wines, presided over by Sandro Lobao and his talented culinary team.

Noteworthy for a conference or wedding, is the array of meeting rooms at Heritage Queenstown including the award-winning Icon Room with state-of-the-art facilities and pristine lake and mountain views without parallel.
