Rutherford Hotel Announces New Appointments

Rutherford Hotel Nelson A Heritage Hotel announces two new appointments to the team.

Birgit Clauss has been appointed as the new conference, events and sales manager, whilst Sanjay Kumar has taken over the reins as the front office manager.

Birgit hails from Germany and has an impressive background in international events. Before coming to New Zealand, she worked in Frankfurt for Hessischer Rundfunk, organising concerts and broadcasting events, coordinating all aspects of events, from catering to budget management. She spent six years in total with this public broadcasting company.

Prior to this she was an events manager for Heidelberg University organising events from workshops to large scale multi-day events.

She has qualifications in events and incentive management, as well as event risk assessment and on-line marketing.

“Birgit has a history of managing complex events and her creativity and guest focus will be a great asset for taking our events to the next level,” says Alexander Siebentritt, general manager of Rutherford Hotel Nelson a Heritage Hotel.

In tandem, Sanjay Kumar has been appointed to the front office manager role at the hotel. He has a degree from the University of Yokohama Japan in tourism business administration and marketing, and has accrued several in-house hotel company awards for excellence in the past.

He began with Fiji’s Warwick International Group Coral Coast in the 1990s. He was later marketing services and revenue manager for Shangri La Fijian Resort for three years, before moving to New Zealand.

He has held regional roles across New Zealand including front office manager at Mantra Lake Tekapo, three years at Peppers Parehau, Martinborough, as senior duty manager. Most recently, he was front office manager at the Hermitage Mount Cook Hotel.

“Sanjay has a great deal of experience across a wide range of properties and locations, as well as strong guest focus,” says Alexander.
