T.H.E. Community Experience
In addition to looking after our guests, we pride ourselves on helping look after the community and our environment.
We recognise that our businesses have an environmental, social and economic responsibility to protect and enhance the environment for future generations and the long-term sustainability of the Tourism Industry in New Zealand. The Heritage Group is committed to giving full consideration to the sustainable use of resources in all management decisions, raising awareness of environmentally sustainable activities and encouraging responsibility in the use of resources within our communities. This also extends to the support of our local communities, with a focus on our children and our health.
We encourage all our staff to be involved in sustainable activities to help minimise our environmental footprint and support our local communities. T.H.E. Community Group, a group-wide sustainability committee, meet once every two months via video conference to share and brainstorm ideas and implement group-wide projects to move towards a more sustainable future, in line with the Tourism Industry Aotearoa Tourism Sustainability Commitment.
Qualmark New Zealand is our current partner in the audit of our sustainability programmes. We are pleased to have achieved a Qualmark Gold in Sustainable Tourism Business Awards at Heritage Queenstown.
We are very proud to be a Major Donor for KidsCan, a children’s charity that works with over 700 low decile schools around the country to help children overcome the hardships associated with poverty.

Our team enjoy fundraising and creating events for many other charities including:

- Oxfam New Zealand
- Daffodil Day
- Breast Cancer Society
- Movember New Zealand
We also support by donating items we no longer require to those in need including furnishings to the likes of City Mission, All Heart and Women’s Refuge and old duvets and pillows to vets and zoos.
Heritage Hotel Management has been committed to reducing our impact on the environment and preserving our resources for many years.
We are proud to be part of Beyond Skin Deep, a soap and hotel bathroom amenity recycling programme run by Starline Group. Beyond Skin Deep takes partially used amenities and repurposes them to make a difference. Our used bars of soap are boiled down and reset for distribution to vulnerable communities here and overseas to improve hygiene and our used bottles are turned into fencing posts for our primary industries by Future Post New Zealand. We also encourage our guests to take their partially used amenities home with them in the Goodie Bag provided in every room.
From participating in "Keep NZ Beautiful" clean up to removing plastic water bottles from our rooms and everything in between, we strive to make a difference to our beautiful country.
We partner with schools and tertiary education providers to promote hospitality as a career for young people. Our teams host famil visits for our properties for high school students and provide internships, coaching and work experience.

The Heritage Hotel Group supports sponsorships that are consistent with our business and marketing objectives. Heritage Hotels considers sponsorship of local and national events or organisations which:
- Encompass good for the community (e.g. school fundraisers)
- Increase awareness of an individual Heritage Hotel or the Heritage Hotel Group
- Provide creative ideas for the implementation of the sponsorship
- Endorse our product and services to a wider audience
- Deliver cross promotion opportunities with other sponsors.
